Dandruff Remedy
Home Remedy for a Dry Scalp
Dry scalp is often the result of natural oils being stripped away. Inappropriate or harsh hair care products are commonly the culprit. However, poor health habits or using hard water can also dry the scalp. Home remedies offer safe, effective, healthy and inexpensive alternatives to costly commercial products.
Decades ago, a popular home remedy for dry scalp called for steeping slices of onion in a cup of rum overnight and massaging the solution onto the scalp. Believe it or not, its actually pretty effective. But it could cause you to become suddenly unpopular. So if you dont care to be cavorting around with rum-onion scented hair, there is another remedy with ingredients that are healing, soothing and remarkably efficient for relieving dry scalp.
Things You'll Need:
Distilled water
Witch hazel
Rolled oats
Rosemary essential oil
Lavender essential oil
Coffee filters
Glass jar
Soft paintbrush or cotton balls
Thick, soft towels
Step 1:
Create a soothing rinse by combining a cup of distilled water with a cup of witch hazel. Slowly pour the solution onto your scalp and massage it in well. Let it set for five minutes and rinse it out with cool or tepid water. Never use hot water on your dry scalp, as it will only aggravate the condition.
Step 2:
Gently pat your head dry with a thick, soft towel. Don't rub your scalp, as this can also irritate the situation.
Step 3:
Bring 2 cups of distilled water to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in .5 cup of rolled oats. Allow the oats to soak for 20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes.
Step 4:
Pour the solution through a coffee filter into a glass jar. Discard the coffee filter and the oats. Stir the fluid well. Add 10 drops of rosemary essential oil and 10 drops of lavender essential oil. Stir the dry scalp treatment again and let it cool to room temperature.
Step 5:
Use a soft paintbrush or some cotton balls to liberally dab the solution onto your entire scalp. Leave it in for 15 minutes.
Step 6:
Rinse the dry scalp treatment from your hair with cool or lukewarm water. Pat your hair and scalp dry with a thick, soft towel. You can repeat this process as often as you like.
- Witch hazel cools and soothes, and distilled water contains none of the impurities present in ordinary tap water. Oatmeal soothes, heals, cleanses and moisturizes. Lavender relieves itchiness, and rosemary is highly regarded for its scalp treatment properties and for promoting healthy hair growth.
